Email from the Moderator of the Overseeing Session to the OPC Discussion List

It has come to my attention that some participants in the discussion have mentioned the name and alluded to the controversial views of Mrs. Irons, a member of the mission work where I serve as moderator of session.  While I think it surely is fair for ordained officers and others to publicly interact with the published opinions of a church member, sometimes such discussion may give those on the outside the wrong impression of what's going on. I'm writing to affirm the good standing of Mrs. Irons as a member of our church. Nor are there any disciplinary charges pending against her.

The overseeing session of Redeemer Chapel is engaged in continuing discussions with Mrs. Irons over her personal views, as well as the contents and operation of her web site. While many of us on the session believe that some of her opinions are seriously in error and need to be reformed according to the Scriptures, we have not been convinced that she has committed an offense in the area of doctrine "which would constitute a denial of a credible profession of faith as reflected in [her] membership vows" (Book of Discipline III: 7).
