Letter from Clerk of Overseeing Session to Misty Irons

May 19, 2003

Dear Mrs. Irons,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The overseeing session of Redeemer OPC has asked me to inform you that on April 22, 2003, the session passed the following motion:

On motion it was determined that the session request Mrs. Irons to remove from her MusingsOn website the article titled, “A Conservative Christian Case for Civil Same-Sex Marriage.” ([Mr. T--] requested that his negative vote be recorded.)

The motion was authored by [Mr. K--]. In speaking in favor of this motion he stated that, while he still thinks your website contains unbiblical views, he is not convinced that you have committed “an offense in the area of doctrine for the nonordained member which would constitute a denial of a credible profession of faith as reflected in the membership vows” (BD III:7). For this reason, the word “request” was deliberately chosen rather than the word “direct” (as in the previous motion of May 13, 2002 directing you to shut down the entire website). This appears to be the mind of the session as a whole, with the exception of [Mr. T--.]

Please forgive me for getting this letter to you nearly a month late.

In Christ’s service,

Lee Irons

Clerk of Session
