Post-boomer
It seems that almost all of the ornery folks I have had run-ins with in the OPC and PCA were boomers. Most of the people in the generation before them or right after them did not feel threatened by me or my theology. In saying that these guys were boomers I don’t mean that they were hippies or liberals. They were another breed of boomer that often gets overlooked: the fundamentalist right-winger hunkering down in reaction to the massive cultural upheaval of the 60s. For example, they really do fear that the framework interpretation will lead down the slippery slope to denying the virgin birth or the resurrection of Christ. They are literally (double-entendre intended) afraid. What we need is more post-boomers. People who don’t automatically equate new ideas with liberalism. People who can read a book by a mainline scholar and get something valuable out of it. The same phenomenon applies in the political realm. Maybe that’s why I symphathize with this guy’s take on Obama.
